شهدتُ الذي تدعونه الغوث والذي

له الملكُ بعد الغوثِ والغوثُ لا يدري

I witnessed what you call rescue, and he who

Owns the kingdom after rescue, and rescue does not know

بما هو غوث ثم إنْ كان عالماً

به فاختصاص جاء في ليله يسري

What rescue is. Then if he was knowledgeable

About it, the specialty came in an easy night

تباركَ ملكُ الملك جلَّ جلاله

وعزَّ فلم يُدرَك بفكرٍ ولا ذِكر

Blessed is the King of kings, His majesty is supreme

His might is unmatched by thought or mention

تعالى عن الأمثالِ علو مكانةٍ

تبارك حتى ضمه القلبُ في صدري

Exalted above equals, lofty in status

Blessed until my heart embraced Him in my chest

ولم أدر ما هذا ولا ينجلي لنا

مقالته فيه والشفع والوترِ

I did not know what this was, nor did it become clear to us

His words about it, the even and the odd

عرفناه لما أن تلونا كتابه

فللجهر ذاك الوتر والشفع للسرِّ

We knew Him when we recited His book

So the even is for the public, and the odd for the secret

وما عجبي من ماءِ مُزن وإنما

عجبتُ لماءٍ سال من يابس الصخر

I am not surprised by Muzn's water, but

I was surprised by water that flowed from solid rock

كضربةِ موسى بالعصا الحجر الذي

تفجر ماءً في أناسٍ له تجري

Like Moses' strike with the staff on the rock

Which gushed water for people to drink

وكلُّ أناسٍ شربُه عالم به

يميزه ذوقاً وإنْ حلَّ في النهر

And whoever drank it knew it

Distinguishing its taste even if it mixed in the river
