إنَّ الوجودَ وجودُ الحقِّ ليس لنا

فيه مجالٌ إذا ما كنتُ أعنيه

Indeed, existence is the existence of the Truth, we have

No place in it, if I mean it

إني لأشهدُه والحقُّ يشهدني

إني أشاهده بما أنا فيه

I bear witness to Him, and the Truth testifies to me

I witness Him in what I am

فليس للكونِ إلا ما يشاهده

وأما نُعتُّ بمعنى من معانيه

So the universe has only what it witnesses

And as for being attributed with any meaning

لذا أكون به في ظاهري علماً

وباطني ألم مما أعانيه

Therefore through Him I become, outwardly, knowledge

And inwardly pain from what afflicts me

بيني وبينك عهدٌ منك قرَّره

شرعٌ أتانا فنوفيه وأوفيه

Between me and you is a covenant you established

A law that came to us, so we fulfill it and accomplish it

فما ترى العينُ من شيء تسربه

الإ وفي الحال يخفيه ويحميه

Thus, the eye does not see anything it imagines

Except, at that moment, He hides and protects it

فلست أدرك من شيءٍ حقيقته

وكيفَ أدركه وأنتم فيه

So I do not perceive the reality of anything

And how can I perceive it, while you are in it

بل عينه ولذا قامَ الدليلُ لكم

عليَّ قطعاً فتبديه وتخفيه

Rather, His eye, and thus evidence stood for you

Against me definitively, so disclose it and conceal it

وما علمت بهذا الأمرِ من جهتي

بل الكلامِ الذي سمعتُ من فيه

And I did not know this matter from my side

But from the words I heard from the One in it

فإنه عينُ نطقي إذ أكلمكم

مع اللسانِ وهذا القدرُ يكفيه

For it is the essence of my speech when I speak to you

With the tongue, and this amount suffices

إني لأخفي أموراً من حقائقه

مبيناتٍ لأمرٍ كان يرضيه

I conceal matters from its realities

Clarifications, for a matter that pleased Him

عمن وما ثَمَّ إلا واحدٌ فلذا

أقاسي منه الذي مني يقاسيه

Who and what then, other than the One, so I endure

From Him what from me endures it

شوقي شديدٌ وشوقُ الحقِّ أعظمُ من

شوقي كذا جاء فيما كان يوحيه

My longing is intense, and the Truth's longing is greater than

My longing, so it came in what He was revealing

إني خليفيه داود وأضوأ من

قد كان في قبضة الرحمن يبديه

I am His deputy David, and more brilliant than

What was in the Grip of the Merciful displaying it

هبَّت علينا رياحُ الجودِ من كَرَمٍ

أتتْ به رُسْله لدى تجلِّيه

The winds of generosity blew upon us from a generosity

That came with His messengers at His manifestation

فناله العارفُ النِّحرير من كتب

بما يكون عليه من تحليه

So the liberated knower attained it from books

With what would be upon it from its preparations

إنْ كان في ملأ فالحالُ يخجله

لذا يرى مائلاً إلى تخليه

If it was in company, the state would shame it

Thus, it is seen inclined to its isolation

إن الجهولَ الذي للغير يثبتها

وفيّ منكرها جَهراً يُباريه

The ignorant one who affirms it for others

And openly contests it

وإنْ درى انني بالورث أملكها

لقامَ من حدٍّ للنورِ يطفيه

And if he knew I possess it by inheritance

He would stand from a limit for the light extinguishing it

فما لنا حيلة نرجو الخلاصَ بها

إلا لنسألَ من أطغاه يهديه

So we have no stratagem we hope for salvation through

Except to ask the One who overwhelmed him to guide him
