إني وسعتُ الكيانَ طرّاً

لما وسعتُ الذي براني

I expanded the abode widely

For the One who expanded me

فكنتُ بيتاً له مُسوَّى

مهيئاً للذي بناني

So I became a house built for Him

Prepared for the One who built me

له فلم يرتضي سواي

أراه مثل الذي يراني

For Him, so none other but Him I wanted

I see Him as the One who sees me

مذ وسعَ الحقُّ قلبَ كوني

ما زلتُ في لذةِ العيانِ

Since the Truth expanded the heart of my being

I remain in the bliss of beholding

أشهدُه فيه كلَّ حينٍ

ذا كرمٍ مطلقِ العنانِ

I witness Him in it all the time

With unconditional generosity

في كلِّ وصفٍ تراه عيني

على الذي وحيه أراني

In every attribute my eyes see

As He inspired me to see Him

ما علم الله غيرَ عبدٍ

أضحى من السرِّ في أمان

God knows no servant

Except one immersed in the secret in security

ليس لنا مشهدٌ سواه

أراه فيه ولا أراني

We have no spectacle but Him

I see Him in it yet I see Him not

أرنو إليه بقدر علمي

من غير أين ولا زمانِ

I look to Him to the extent of my knowledge

Beyond where or when

ولا ترى عينه سواي

إلا إذا كان في الجنان

No eye sees Him but mine

Unless it be in Paradise

أو صار في حلبة المنايا

قد سبق القومَ للرهانِ

Or has preceded people in death

And won the wager
