لا درع أَوقى مِن أَجل
لا شَيء أَبقى مِن مثل
No shield is more powerful than destiny
Nothing lasts longer than an example
فوّل بِما شئت يكن
وَهون الأَمر يهن
Turn away as you wish, it will be
Make the matter easy, it will be easy
كانَ النبي المؤتمن
يعجبه الفال الحسن
The trusted Prophet
Used to like good omens
قَد تحمد المكاره
يَوماً وَيَرضى الكاره
Hardships may one day
Please the distressed
لا تكرهن ما عرض
فَرُبما يشفى المَرَض
Do not dislike what has occurred
Perhaps illness may be cured
ما أَصلح الفَصاحه
ما أَحسن السماحه
Nothing improves eloquence
Nothing better than leniency
ما لسخي عَيب
أَصل العُيوب الشيب
No fault for the generous
The origin of faults is old age
ما لبخيل حامد
ما لدنيء حاسد
No praise for the stingy
No envy for the lowly
المَوت لا يبقي أَحد
لا والِداً وَلا وَلَد
Death spares no one
Neither father nor son
كَم لذة مِن نَغصه
وَراحة في غَصه
What joy with annoyance
And relaxation with tightness
لا تحقرن العاقبه
وَلا تَهون عاقبه
Do not belittle the consequence
Nor make light of the result
خَف مِن عَدو عاقل
مُؤارب مجامل
Beware an intelligent enemy
Who flatters and deceives
اصبر لأَيام المحن
لا تَخضعن فَتمتحن
Be patient in times of tribulation
Do not give in lest you be tested
لا تَصحب اللئاما
لا تترك الكِراما
Do not accompany scoundrels
Nor forsake the honorable
لا تُكثر الكَلاما
لا ترهب الحماما
Do not overtalk
Nor intimidate the dove
لا تطل العِتابا
لا تَضجر الأَصحابا
Do not prolong blame
Nor bother friends
لا تَشمتن حرا
لا تنطقن هَجرا
Do not gloat over the free
Nor utter separation
لا تحقرن جَليسا
تَكُن لَهُ رَئيسا
Do not belittle a companion
You may become his chief
إِياكَ وَالتَقطيبا
وَاللوم وَالتثريبا
Beware of frowning
Blame and rebuke
وَكَثرة التجرم
وَاللوم وَالتلوم
And frequent fault finding
And blame and reproof
فَتفسد القُلوب
وَينفر المَحبوب
It sours hearts
And estranges the beloved
انتَقد الرجالا
كَنقدك الأَموالا
Appraise men
As you appraise money
فَفيهم زيوف
وَبَينهم صُروف
Among them are counterfeits
And among them, pure
