The morning breeze, why do I see you scattered?

I knew you intimate and familiar.

My tears did not flow freely in your plains

Until my heart within became imprisoned.

The new moon of a blessed month from Aamir

Rose over Al-Kathib as a new moon and sun.

It set with them in Ghurrab. O you who saw

A sun whose setting brings frowning.

O excellent are those who endure an evening

Of starvation and make dough from millet.

Racing like arrows, so they meet the morning

Shattered by the roads into fragments.

You have no shelter from a cleft that contracted

The shadow of passion, so it became turbid.

You have ruptured their livers with passion

And opened in the pericardium an unhealable wound.

By God, I had an intoxicated night with the women

    And be intoxicated with joy.

So I escaped from worries and she encircled

The son of Minna, daughter of the vineyards, as a bride.

The setting suns in the sky of comfort made

    Their constellations for us cups.
