With my love of mountains, as you know

I sold the land of Iraq with its hills.

The battlefield of lovers is most often

    Between cheek and chin.

I love the flexing of the slim waists

When the youths bend with the morn and eve.

Each boy's cheek the sun seemed to have lit

    Illuminating his whole cheek.

His mole is a rose, his cheek a garden,

Redder than the redness of shyness itself,

And his face the full moon beneath his forelock

Appears like a dawn amidst the night.
