لعلَ الخيالَ العامريَّ إذا سرى

يدلُّ عيونَ الهاشميّ على الكَرى

Perhaps imaginings, when they roam,

will guide the eyes of the Hashimite to the burial grounds.

ويا ربّ إن روَحتَ فِكرا من الهوى

فزِد نارَ قلبي حُرقةً وتسعّرا

And oh Lord, if thoughts of passion depart,

then increase the burning in my heart and make it flare up.

وإن كان في وَصلي الَملالةُ والقِلى

فأوحِ إليها الهجرَ ربّي لتَهجُرا

And if boredom and disinterest enter my union,

then inspire her, my Lord, to abandon me.

ودَدِتُ وما تُغني الوَدادةُ والمنى

لوَ انّي أرى قلباً يُباع فيُشترى

I wished - but wishing and desires are fruitless -

that I might see a heart put up for sale, and bought.
