1. حباها بإحسانٍ وبادرَ مُسرعا

    إلى وَتِد المنقارِ عَلَّق خُفَّها

    He endowed her with kindness and hastened

    To hang her slipper on the beak of the tent.

  2. وكان إذا ما غاظَه قبحُ فِعلِها

    يَبُلُّ قفاهُ ثم يَصفَع كَفَّها

    And whenever her ugly deed aggrieved him,

    He would wet the back of his hand and then slap her face.
