تُعزى إليه الحكمةُ البالغه

I said to the chief sheikh, to whom

Is attributed supreme wisdom,

إنّ علوماً كنتَ أوضحتَها

لنا بتلكَ الحجّةِ الدامِغَه

That the sciences you had elucidated

For us with that convincing proof

كادت تُضاهي الوَحيَ لكنّها

قد أُنزلت عن غرفةٍ فارغَه

Almost rival revelation, but they

Were sent down from an empty chamber.
