O doe-eyed one from the flashing fever,

The breeze of the meadows welcomed you when it blew.

I complained of the pain of love and longing, and yet

Where can I complain - who shows mercy to the complainer?

With his shining virtues I composed verses,

Yet of what I composed I have nothing left but the thread.

O father of the inviolable sanctuary, every ungrateful one

Rewards the generous praise with jest and laughter.

If I were stubborn in attacking their honour,

My words and my sword would not spare them.
