Give me a pure sip, without any blend
My comfort, that's my comfort and healing
If a drop of it pours into a bottle
Its translucence lights up, glowing, illuminating
And if a rogue tastes a draught
It satisfies him with a secret he guards closely
And if a follower has a swig
It whispers to him in clear revealed truth
He becomes lost in an intense bewilderment
In which there’s no interpretation nor solution
He finds rest from turmoil, as though
Lutes and flutes soothed him
A holy scent wafts over him
In the shade of an ever stirring portal
If one day some remains in him
It will purposefully lead him on the right path
And if the intoxication of pure wine takes hold of him
He must patiently await al-Hallaj’s fate
The most refined drink, he who tastes it
Is guided by the light of a lamp
Is to see none but the Truth itself
And all are compelled towards it, willingly or not
