Your poetry, sweet in delicacy and grandeur,
is more delightful than good cheer, sweeter than union.
No need, then, for Ibn Abī Sulmā or Ibn Abī Rabīʿa
when you cast verse in a smooth, effortless mold;
and if you give poetry weight and grandeur, then it belongs
to ʿAntara among the ʿAbs—or to ʿAlqama al-Faḥl.
