أوجبت لي شكراً وما قمتُ من
حقَّك بالفرض ولا الندبِ
You have bound me with gratitude though I have not
Fulfilled my duty to You, neither ordained nor supererogatory
ولو بسطت الخد قصرت عن
واجب ذلك السيد الندبِ
Even if I laid down my cheek, I would fall short of
The duty owed to that Generous Master
