ما طلعت الشمس برأس الحمل

ولهجة النفس بنجح العمل

The sun has not risen with Aries

Nor the soul's yearning with the success of work

وقرّة العين بيوم الرضا

وبهجة القلب بنيل الأمل

Nor the delight of the eyes with the day of consent

Nor the joy of the heart with attaining hope

ولذّة الأمن إذا ما حلا

مذاقه من بعد مرّ الوجل

Nor the pleasure of security when it descends

Its taste after the bitterness of anxiety

ودولة الوصل أتت عاشقا

مرّت من الهجر عليه دُوَل

And the state of connection came to a lover

After separation revolved upon him

ومنظر الحسن وقد ناظرت

بيض الوجوه فيه سود المُقَل

And the sight of beauty when the white faces gazed

In it the black of eyeliner

أحسن من أيّام عرس بها

تأنّق الدهر لنا واحتفل

Better than wedding days in which

Time adorned itself for us and celebrated

وكلّ يوم مرّ منها لنا

عيد سعيد خيره قد شمل

And every day that passed for us

A happy holiday, its goodness has included

فالبشر فيها سابغ ثوبه

قد منح الأرض بنهل وبلّ

So good news in it fully clothed

The earth has been endowed with streams and rain

والجود فيها قد همت سحبه

فأروت الخلق بوبل وطل

And generosity in it, its clouds have intended

To water people with abundant and continuous rain

والناس في أنس بها شامل

والملك في عزّ بها محتفل

And the people in it, inclusive and perfect

And the king in it, celebrating and honored
