ما حيوانٌ في اسمه

إن اعتبرته فَنُون

No creature in its name,

If you consider it arts,

أحرفه ثلاثةٌ

والكلُّ منها هو نون

Its letters are three,

And the whole of it is noon.

إن أنت صَحَّفتَ اسمه

فما جَنَاهُ المذنبون

If you misspelled its name,

Then the sinners did not gain from it,

أو أبيض أو أسود

أو صفةُ النفس الخؤون

Whether white or black,

Or the quality of the sad soul.

قَلب اسمه مصحَّفا

عليه دارتِ السنون

Flip its name misspelled,

The years revolved around it.

كانت به فيما مضى

عبرةُ قومٍ يعقلون

In the past, it was

A lesson for rational people.

أودِعَ فيه زمناً

سرٌّ من السرِّ المصون

It contained for a period of time,

A secret of the guarded secret.

فهاكه كالنار في ال

زَّندِ لَهُ فيها كمونُ
