What grievance can a man of sixty have against his Lord
if tomorrow he enters the Fire in one of its depths?
God has surely warned him fully; and there is no
excuse for an old man who has witnessed life’s fray.
He did not forsake sin; rather,
repentance was among the things he forsook.
He fell upon his face and hands—and how many
a sparrow the snare has failed to catch!
Time has tossed him about; yet surely the One who
set him moving will still all movement in him.
He drove the camel of life onward until, when
death came upon it and made it kneel—it sank to its knees.
