بَعُدَت ليلَةٌ تولّت ذَميمَه
لم تَفِض فيضَ ديمَةٍ بعد دِيمَه
A night has passed, turning away its breeze
No dew has spilled after its dew
ليلة لو تَقَدَّمت لاستَحقَّت
شهرةَ الذّكرِ قبلَ يَوم حَلِيمَه
If that night had come earlier, it would have deserved
The fame of mention before the day of Halima
غسَلت لِمَّتي بصُبحِ مَشِيبٍ
وَمَحت لَيلَةً عَليَّ كريمَة
It washed my temples with the morning of old age
And erased a generous night from me
وورَائي من الخِضابِ قَصِيرٌ
وهي زَبَّاءُ والشّبابُ جَذِيمَهُ
Behind me is little dye
While it is bright and youth has withered
