قد تخوفتُ أن أموتَ من الوَجْ
د ولم يَدْرِ مَنْ هَوِيتُ بما بِي
I feared I might die of longing, not knowing
who I was, with all that was in me.
يا كتابي فاقْرَ السَّلامَ على مَنْ
لا أُسمِّي وقل له يا كتابي
My poem, give peace to the one
I do not name. Say: My poem,
إنَّ كفّاً إيلكَ قد بعثَتْني
في شَقَاءٍ مُواصَلٍ وعذابِ
a hand reached out and sent me to you
in unending pain and torment.
