1. وتنالُ مِنْكَ بِحَدّ مُقْلَتِها

    ما لا يَنالُ بِحَدِّهِ النَّصْلُ

    She wounds you with her glances as no swords can wound;

    Her beauty occupies all who have eyes to see;

  2. شَغَلَتْكَ وهْيَ لِكُلِّ ذي بَصَرٍ

    لاقى مَحاسِنَ وَجْهِها شُغْلُ

    Her heart is wise, keeping her from those in love;

    Yet her eyes are ignorant, full of coquetry.

  3. فَلِقَلْبِها حِلْمٌ يُباعِدُها

    عن ذي الهَوى وَلِطَرْفِها جَهْلُ

    When you look on her beauty every glance means death;

    Her face is a moon, her eyes are kohl;

  4. وإذا نَظَرْتَ إلى مَحاسِنها

    فَلِكُلِّ مَوْضِعِ نَظْرَةٍ قَتْلُ

    For in her face is a moon, and in her eyes is kohl.

  5. ولِوَجْهها مِنْ وَجْهِها قَمَرٌ

    ولِعَيْنِها مِنْ عَيْنِها كُحْلُ
