وَكُن مَعقِلاً لِلحِلمِ واصفَح عَن الخَنى

فإِنَّكَ راءٍ ما حَييتَ وَسامِعُ

Be a fortress for patience, overlook the rancor

For you are seeing as long as you live and hearing

وأَحبِب إِذا أَحبَبتَ حُبّاً مُقارِباً

فإِنَّكَ لا تَدري مَتى أَنتَ نازِعُ

And love, when you love, with moderated affection

For you know not when you will be parted

وأَبغَض إِذا أَبغَضتَ بَغضاً مُقارِباً

فإِنَكَ لا تَدري مَتى أَنتَ راجِعُ

And hate, when you hate, with moderated abhorrence

For you know not when you will make amends
