قد حاز يوحنا الجنينُ كمالَه

مذ زاره المولى الجنين بأُمِّهِ

John the Baptist gained perfection

When visited by the Lord, a babe with his mother

فانهض أيا يحيى الحصور ولاتني

واطلب إلهاً قد أتاك وأُمِّهِ

So arise, O John, secluded, do not sleep

And seek a God who came with his mother

طوبى له إذ صار موضوعَ الرضا

ما بينَ عهدينِ استبدّا باسمِهِ

Blessed is he who pleased the Lord

Between two covenants, his name prevailed

وَقَفَ النباءُ به عن ابنِ اللَه لا

متأخِّراً عنه وتمَّ بقُدمِهِ

The prophets stopped prophecy of the Son of God

Not lagging behind him, complete with his steps

هيهاتِ أن تعلو عُلاهُ الأنبيا ال

غرّاءُ أو يرقوا رُقِيه بحُكمه

Far it is that the prophets surpass his height

Vain or transcend his ascendancy in judgment

حاز السماء ومُلكَها من قبلِ أن

يرى في الوجود الأرضَ أو في علمه

He gained heaven and its kingdom before

Seeing in existence the earth or in his knowledge

وأَجَنَّ روحَ القدس حين أَجنَّه

رَحِمٌ جَنَتْهُ مكبَّلاً في رحْمِهِ

And he yielded the Holy Spirit when he yielded him

A womb that conceived him, bundled in its womb

متزيناً بمواهبٍ روحيةٍ

تمَّت وما تمت خلائقُ رسمه

Adorned with spiritual gifts

That were complete though creatures were still being shaped

متدجِّجاً بسلاح روحٍ قبل أن

تتدجَّجَ الأعضا السلاحَ بتَمِّه

Armored with the weapon of spirit before

Limbs armored themselves with their perfection

أعني طبيعتَه لخالقِ طبعِه

طبعاً فجاء مظفَّراً بأَتمِّه

I mean his nature for the Creator of his nature

Naturally coming out most victorious

سبق المسيحَ بنفسِه متهلهلاً

روحاً وجسماً وهو داخلَ أُمِّه

He preceded Christ himself enthroned

In spirit and body while still inside his mother
