We beheld two Adams together, yet
in what they were, each stood opposed to the other.
One Adam arose from the earth’s dust,
and an Adam from God’s heaven drew near.
That one dealt us death in soul and body
through what he brought forth from beyond the realm of sight;
while this one came to us in perfect righteousness
and revived two dead ones—he fashioned their forms.
Thus the first was the second in one sense,
and the second was first in one of the senses.
