يا حسوداً يزيده الخيرُ شرّاً

خفِّضِ الحزنَ تسترحْ يا حسودي

O envious one, goodness increases his evil

Lower the sorrow, take it easy, o envious one

لا تلمني فرب لومٍ لفضلٍ

من لئامٍ لِلُؤمِ طبعٍ حسودِ

Do not blame me, the Lord blames excellence

From the wickedness of the ignorant, the nature of the envious

فكأني وقد تزايد مكثي

بمقامٍ يضمُّ جوداً لجودِ

As if I, as my stay increased

In a position that includes generosity to generosity

جرمُ نارٍ لها الحسود وقودٌ

يا ذكا اللَهُ نارَ ذاك الوقودِ

The crime of fire, which the envious are its fuel

O God remembered the fire of that fuel

قد عرفتُ وما جهلت مُقامي

بدمشقٍ كأنني بثمودِ

I have known, and I do not know my position

In Damascus, as if I were in Thamud

ما مقامي بأرض جلَّقَ إلّا

كمقام المسيح بين اليهود

My position is not on slick land

Like the position of the Messiah among the Jews
