1. Far be it from the head of Him who came for our salvation

    that the ravages of wounds should assail it.

  2. Its crowning with thorns heralded

    Adam’s deliverance from the hand of wounds.

  3. When Jesus bowed His head on our behalf,

    the head of the perishing one was thereby raised.

  4. Far be it from You, my Lord, to bear wounds that left

    their branded mark upon You; I shall ever hold You above them.

  5. Yet, for a purpose You willed for our salvation,

    You were our surety against trembling.
