I heard with my ears the melody of the arrow in my heart

And glimpsed with my eyes the flash of playfulness in my wonder

And I touched with my palms every opportunity that came

To bring me closer to one sin and take me away from another

And I tasted with my mouth a pleasure that arouses passion

Yet here I am, because of that sweetness, in turmoil

I smelled with my nose the fragrance of comfort and rest

With which I follow the traces of every lie

Yet I only increased in ignoring heedlessly

As if I were in the east but leaning toward the west

These are but the senses of a losing business

    Wavering between loss and gain

With them I hoped for life like one seeking

His ruin in his own misguided tools

So it is no wonder that my nose has conspired against me with my palms

And no one has rebelled against me but my own heart

Had it not been for my hands I would never have been corrupted

Had it not been for my mouth I would not have enjoyed food or drink

And there would not have flowed from me hurtful words

With slander, insult and abuse in their arena

So O breaths that I would inhale

With you I knew my illness and my ration is enough

The five senses attacked me with their arrows

Dual in their shooting, triple in their curvature

    Naturally quadrilateral, passionate quintuple

    Circumstantial sextuple, warring septuple

They struck me openly and secretly with their missiles

And it goes without saying, one who sees the core of the mind

It is their way to appear and hide from prohibition

Yearning for the east and disgusted with the west

And beneath them flow waters of bitterness

With seven springs mixing the bitter and the sweet

So lie in ambush with the eye of reason at their doors, be resolute

And if you have resolve, weep at their ruins

For God's sake, if you come to the abode and do not find

In its courtyard my companions for an accident, call out

And do not remain in the ruins of the winding valley distraught

For how many distraught ones has it made captives

Leave the dead writhing in the winding waters

With its two enticing arrows, and come to my flock

Take me away if you see me glancing back

And my longing for its ruins in passion has gone on too long

Beware residing in a blamed house

And take me away, and do not be surprised if my wonder at you grows

And beware the ambitious gaze toward

The king of serpents in intense courage

For in war you will not see a war like his war

If you are alone today in the solitude of heart

Pass through a valley no son of a planet has treaded

With resolve except that he rose above the clay of dust

It has veils that protect you, protected by its veils

Upon its veils, as the veils themselves are in those veils

So when I saw resolve beckon me one day with a glance

And stop me on the road of the path

I lingered at the door of humility standing

At its doors, between distance and nearness

With the hands of hope until I meet my Lord

Imploring her my heart, mind and thoughts

Cautiously until I attained the connection

She is the sun in influence and the moon in splendor

She is the brilliant planet among the seven stars

She is the secret stone in our alchemy

Seen by the wise man of old from past eras

And he perfected it through dissolution and coagulation

Through dissolution from a spirit and through coagulation from dust

And brought it out as a generous, immaculate body

Free of innate impurity, flaw, and reproach

She is the white pearl in the throne, her secret:

When that throne shakes, she says to it "enough for me"!

I am Mary, the mother of intercession and piety

And the mother of perfect hope, success and love

Transcend the comparisons, my worth and station

So where is the angelic realm from such nearness

If I were a mother to God, then all that

Is seen in universal existence is beneath me except my Lord
