1. حي الديار ديار جلق واستزِدْ

    فيها المنى من سفح ذاك الوادي

    The homelands, homelands of love and yearning

    In them wishes grow on the slopes of valleys

  2. واقر السلام أحبةً فيها غدَوا

    روحَ الفؤاد وراحةَ الأكباد

    Where dear friends bid peace at dawn

    To soothe the soul and rest the mind

  3. كم مر لي بالصالحية مربعٌ

    مصطافُهُ وِردٌ من الأوراد

    How many times did I pass through As-Salihiyah

    Its dweller a bouquet of flowers

  4. رُح يا نسيم مسلِّماً فيه على

    كيوانها من رائحٍ أو غاد

    Go O breeze passing it on

    The scent of its jasmine and roses

  5. واستخبرنَّ رياضَها وغياضها

    فلقد أضعت بظلِّهن فؤادي

    Ask about its gardens and groves

    Where I lost my heart in their shade

  6. ما بين أزهارٍ تدبَّجَ لونُها

    من أحمرٍ أو أبيضٍ أو جادي

    Among flowers embroidered

    In red, white and pale

  7. قد صافحت أيدي النسيم غصونَها

    أحسن بغصنٍ مائسٍ ميّاد

    The wind’s hands shook their branches

    Better than a withering, leaning branch

  8. وجداولٍ قابلتها بحدائقٍ

    وخمائل واصلتها بأياد

    And streams I met in gardens

    Connected by arches and vines

  9. طوراً تريني نَورَها متبسماً

    طرباً وطوراً ذاكيَ الأبراد

    Sometimes it shows me its light smiling

    In merriment, sometimes frowning

  10. فكأن قاني وردها في غصنه

    نارٌ على علمٍ وقدحُ زناد

    As if its roses on branches

    Are flames on a banner raised by warriors

  11. جُمِعت بها الأمواه جمعاً سالماً

    فتكسرت من شاهقٍ مُتماد

    It gathered pure waters in tranquility

    To be broken by towering waves

  12. مرَّ النسيمُ بها عليلاً فاستوى

    عندي صحيحاً والقلوب صواد

    The breeze passed ill but to me

    Became healthy while hearts worried

  13. والغيم في أفق السماء ممزقٌ

    والشمسُ دون رِداه بالمرصاد

    The clouds in the horizon are torn

    The sun behind its veil keeping guard

  14. تبدو وتخفى من خلال فروجه

    فكأنها تنقاد من قَوَّاد

    Appearing and hiding through its holes

    As if led by a cunning pimp

  15. شمسٌ تريك سماء أزهار الربى

    تبدي نجوماً والنجومُ دآدي

    A sun showing you flowers’ sky

    Revealing stars while stars disappear

  16. والبدر قد عقدت عليه إزاره

    هالاته حذراً من الحساد

    The crescent bound its wrapper

    Fearing the envious eyes

  17. سقياً دمشقَ وماءها ونسيمَها

    فثلاثةٌ عَقدَت عليَّ ودادي

    Watering Damascus, its water and breeze

    Three have bound their love to me

  18. عاهدت أنواءَ العهاد بربعها

    أن لا يحول عن العهود عِهادي

    I vowed to the times of covenant in its meadows

    That my faith would not break its bonds

  19. نُوّارها عقدٌ يزيِّن جيدَها

    يُزري بعقد زبرجدٍ ونجادي

    Its lights are a necklace adorning its chest

    Outshining necklaces of pearls and gems

  20. فكأنها عقدُ الزمان وطوقُهُ

    في جيد كل مدينةٍ وبلاد

    As if it is the age’s necklace and collar

    On the chest of each city and country

  21. رقت شمائلُها وراقت منظراً

    تروي عن العشاق بالإسناد

    Its figure is delicate and its sight gratifying

    Telling the lovers ancient stories

  22. في نُطقها نُطقُ الحجاز ولينِها

    حلبٌ روت بالظَرف عن بغداد

    In its dialect the dialect of Hejaz and its softness

    Aleppo narrated with eloquence from Baghdad

  23. سر في زمام أريجها تجدِ الهدى

    يا نفحةً رَدَّت إليَّ فؤادي

    Walk straight in the rein of its perfume to find guidance

    O breeze returning my heart to me

  24. ما روضةٌ عدنيةٌ ذهبيةٌ

    قد ضمخت تيجانها بزَباد

    Not an earthly golden Eden

    Whose crown is adorned with Zabargad

  25. فتعطرت أقطارها وتنوّرت

    أنوارها وأتت بكل مراد

    Its regions are scented and lit

    Fulfilling every wish

  26. بسط الربيع بها نمارقَ زَهرها

    منشورةً كدراهم الأسجاد

    Spring has laid out its floral carpets

    Spread out like the drachmas’ carpets

  27. مدّت خمائلُها رواقَ سرادقٍ

    تبدي نجوماً في سماء سواد

    Its arches have extended a porch’s ceiling

    Revealing stars in black sky

  28. مذ هيَّج البلبالَ بلبلُ روضها

    رقصت له الأرواحُ في الأجساد

    Since the nightingale stirred its garden’s roses

    The spirits danced in the bodies

  29. يوماً بأحسنَ من دمشق إذا بدت

    تزهو بثوب العزِّ في الأعياد

    One day it appeared more beautiful than Damascus

    Boasting in the gown of glory during festivals

  30. في فتيةٍ قاموا على قدم التقى

    بتورعٍ وأمانةٍ وسَداد

    In young men who stood with piety

    Devotion, honesty and righteousness

  31. شقّوا لذاك عصا الشقاق فأصبحوا

    متسابقين لطاعةٍ ورشاد

    They split the rod of discord so they raced

    To obedience and guidance

  32. فدمشق سادت حين شادت أوّلاً

    ركنَ المعالي عاليَ الأطواد

    Damascus preceded when it first raised

    The pillar of glory, of high goals

  33. كم من نبيٍّ زارها فتأزَّرت

    منه على فضل المسيح الفادي

    How many prophets it has dressed for

    When they came to the Christ the Redeemer

  34. فيها أعاد اللَهُ بولسَ مرسلاً

    منه فعاد إليه خيرَ معاد

    In it God returned Paul as an apostle

    Who returned to Him in the best of ways

  35. وبها ربحناهُ رسولاً بعد أن

    قد كان مضطهداً بكلِّ عناد

    And through it we profited having him as apostle

    After he persecuted ferociously

  36. يا دعوةً سريةً قدسيةً

    فاللَه يأمرُ والرسول ينادي

    O a secret, holy call

    God commands and the apostle calls

  37. قل لي فأصنعَ ما تريد فإنني

    في اللَهِ خيرُ مبشِّرٍ ومناد

    Tell me to do as you wish, for I am

    In God the best bearer of good news

  38. هي منبر قام الرسول برأسها

    فتمسكت لنداهُ بالأعواد

    It is the pulpit where the apostle stood at its head

    So it held on to his pillars

  39. أكرم بها من دوحةٍ سُرّيّةٍ

    ومكارمُ الآباء بالأجداد

    Honored with a confidential session

    And the good manners of the ancestors

  40. نلنا الهدى ثم الفداءَ من الردى

    هيهات ليس السرُّ بالإيلاد

    We attained guidance and redemption from perdition

    Never, the secret is not with Christmas

  41. من صخرةٍ شرقيةٍ قد قابلت

    مرماةَ منجَى الجهبذِ النقّاد

    From an eastern rock facing

    The shelter’s rescue of the great critic

  42. فتَقوَّمت أعمالنا بعلومه

    كتقوم الأرواح بالأجساد

    Our deeds became upright with his knowledge

    As spirits upright with bodies

  43. هذي أُحادٌ من عداد مناقبٍ

    جمعت فكان عدادها بأُحادِ

    These are selected glories

    Whose number is with the unique
