1. بالعقل قد يحوي الفتى الإحياءَ

    لا بالأصول تخالُها أحياءَ

    With reason a youth may contain revival

    Not with fundamentals that make them seem alive

  2. رأس المعارف حكمةٌ تسمو بها

    مرقاتها عن كونها ضوضاءَ

    The pinnacle of knowledge is wisdom through which one is exalted

    Above its froth that makes it noise

  3. فنتائج الأفهام فهمٌ ثاقبٌ

    والفكر متقدٌ يُري الآراء

    So the results of perceptions are penetrating insight

    And thought is ignited displaying viewpoints

  4. لِنْ في الخطاب لأحمقٍ متعنتٍ

    شكسٍ وكن بجداله فَأفاء

    For if in speech to a stubborn fool

    Obstinate, yet engage him in debate and yield

  5. واخفض جناحك في التماسك بغيةً

    إن الأبيَّ يفوته ما شاء

    And fold your wing humbly seeking

    The stubborn will miss what he desires

  6. فمكارم الأخلاق عنوان الفتى

    وبها يصيب مودةً وإخاء

    So the virtues of character are the mark of a youth

    And through them he attains affection and brotherhood

  7. إن التأني في المقاصد حكمةٌ

    وخلافه قد أفسد الأشياء

    Patience in purposes is wisdom

    And its opposite has ruined things

  8. والصمت بُردتُه تُهابُ جلالةً

    والنطق حكمتُه تقي الفحشاء

    The garment of chastity hides what is underneath

    And humility uplifts the lowly

  9. ثوبُ العفافِ يحيلُ عما تحته

    والإتضاع يعظم الضعفاء

    To merit is attributed every honorable tear

    And justice spreads its wings over enemies

  10. للفضل يُعزَى كلُّ خِرقٍ سؤددٍ

    والعدل يطوي نشرُه الأعداء

    And forbearance, hearts serve it obediently

    How many a hand for you among us is white

  11. والحلم تخدُمُه القلوب مجيبةً

    كم من يدٍ لك عندنا بيضاءَ

    The passing of days goes by as though

    The passing clouds inform us of news

  12. وكرور أيامٍ تمرُّ كأنها

    مرُّ السحاب تُفيدنا الأنباءَ

    Maladies originate from their movements

    And become at times a disease, and at times a cure

  13. تتولدُ الآفات من حركاتها

    وتكون داءً تارةً ودواء

    Life is corrupted suddenly by disasters

    Inflicting it and increasing its woes

  14. والعيش تفسده المكاره بغتةً

    بحلولها وتزيده أسواء

    Whoever rejects blessings is deprived of them, and whoever

    Is gracious keeps the right path clear of error

  15. من يكفر النعماء يُحرَمْها ومن

    يمنُن بها يذرِ الصواب خَطاء

    Stinginess is laden with sorrow and harshness

    While generosity contains bliss and supplication

  16. والشح مشحونٌ أسىً وقساوةً

    والجود يحوي غبطةً ودُعاء

    O you the protector, exemplar of his people

    Do not weary of guarding the innocent

  17. يا أيها النحرير قدوة قومه

    لا تسأمنْ أن تعصم الحوباء

    For ignorance is grasped by the wise since he

    Was once ignorant, erring

  18. فالجهل يدركه الحكيم لأنه

    قد كان قدماً جاهلاً خطّاء

    Sincerity is the best virtue there can be

    While falsehood is the ugliest garb

  19. والصدق أحسن ما يكون فضيلةً

    والكذْب أقبح ما يكون رداء

    Be like the otter in keeping a promise when

    Survival on promises is faithfulness

  20. كن كالسموأل في وفاء العهد إذ

    كانَ البقاءُ على العهود وفاءَ

    Whoever experiences the world and traverses its ruggedness

    Knows its richness and avoids wretchedness

  21. من يخبر الدنيا ويسبُرْ بخسَها

    يعرف غناه ويتقي الأرزاء

    And knowledge is unknown to the fool since he

    Has never known knowledge or the learned

  22. والعلم يجهله الغبي لأنه

    لم يدر قط العلمَ والعلماء

    A person is both mistaken and correct

    If his claim misguides him

  23. المرء بينهما مصيبٌ مخطئٌ

    إن كان دعواه له إغواء

    Like the strong poet who is guided at times

    And at times rides misguidance

  24. كالشاعر المُقويّ طوراً مُهتدٍ

    فيه وطوراً يركب الإقواء

    This is what leaves the avaricious successful

    So be keen to reap good and piety

  25. هذا الذي يذر الحريص موفَّقاً

    فاحرص لتجني الخير والتقواء

    Clinging to the chastity of Mary

    Treasure of piety and refuge from he who is miserable

  26. متمسكاً بعرى البتولة مريمٍ

    كنز التقى وملاذ من قد ساء

    She stood an intermediary between Adam and her Son

    Blessed is the guide who reconciles enemies

  27. قامت وسيطاً بين آدم وابنها

    طوبى لهادٍ يصلحُ الأعداء

    Whoever came to her seeking salvation from foes

    One day when it was time and her secret was revealed

  28. من جاءها يبغي النجاة من العدا

    يوماً وَقْتهُ وسرَّها إذ جاء
