Stop weeping, O self, though its fortresses be long,

And though joy be foreshortened for it.

When its peaks are barred from me?

And said, perhaps in delusion I may visit it.

Do you slumber that it may come to you walking?

Where can my eye obtain sleep and borrow it?

It suffices that I stay up and my tears overflow

    When its abundant seas overflow.

We trod barefoot, and its wounds were not paved.

More refined and hidden, nay most hidden than its vapor.

While being nothing but its slave, not its prince.

And you return with a liver that its blaze does not suffice.

You are pleased by the pleasures of supremacy from it,

While its remoteness and desolation rebut you.

And those are hands whose fragrance does not go unnoticed.

I praised you, O Virgin, to gain through praising you

A delicate, delicate prisoner who is dear to me.

Without you O Queen of earth and sky,

A necklace of poems whose pearls are throats.

You are their gems and you are their twinkles.

That the silk-robed poet would find difficult.

As charm adorned the rosy cheek its allure.

Coquettish, almost narrating from a smiling mouth
