    Does Ferdinand know that passion

Is of the essence of the heart's core?

That I have become, in loving him,

A captive of affection and a sister of yearning.

I suffer sorrows and tend to the stars,

And unleash tears like a torrent of grief,

    What lover, when he appears,

Can one say is a noble of high rank,

Who has a rising, if women saw it,

They would take off modesty and sell propriety,

And a pride of self that kings would love

To have the like of it in the world,

And a gentle discourse, as if the breeze

In the night, with its speech, had blown

So oh Lord, do attributes like these

Adorn a sinner, intimate with misery?

If Ferdinand is a thief, then why

Did you grant him the nature of the exalted?

Do you combine guidance and misguidance

And the Pleiades and the ground?

Exalted is your affair above the affairs

And You are far above the like of this passion

For Ferdinand is no thief, but

There is a profound secret here

    That must soon be revealed

To uncover this distress from me

And I know that I have not followed

In loving him except the path of guidance

And after the swooning of confusion

Does Ferdinand not have a likeness here?

As for me, since my youth I have lived

In this wilderness like some animals

They say, whenever they see me, a shepherdess,

And they do not know who I am

So we in life are equal

Both of us stray in this world

And fortune has brought together between us

So why can we not be so in love?
