    لعينيكَ كلُّ حبيبٍ فدى

    O master of rhyme and lord of dew

    For your eyes every lover pays his due

  2. إذا الشعراءُ أباحوا القريض

    نقدٍّ تثنى وطرفٍ رنا

    When poets take liberties with verse

    Offering critique and subtle quips

  3. وحاموا على كل رسمٍ عفا

    وهاموا بكل خيال سرى

    And preach on every faded custom

    And pine for each hidden tale

  4. جعلتُ مناقبك الباهراتِ

    حديثاً يطيبُ لأهلِ النُهى

    I made your brilliant virtues

    A story that pleases the chaste

  5. وصغتُ لمجدِكَ كلَّ قصيدٍ

    إذا ما نُنوشِد أصغى الورى

    And I tuned every ode

    To your glory, as all keen folk heard

  6. هو الثَمرُ الحلو من منطقي

    جَنوهُ ولولاكَ لم يُجتنى

    It is the sweet fruit of my speech

    I picked it, without you it's not obtained

  7. ولولا الغمامُ واسعادُهُ

    لما كلَّل الزهرُ هامَ الرُبى

    Without clouds and their joy

    No flower crowns the hilltops

  8. وما أنا أوَّلُ قلبٍ سرَرتَ

    فكم بك سُرَّت قلوب الملا

    I'm not the first heart you have gladdened

    So many hearts you made glad

  9. وكم لك في شرقِنا من يدٍ

    تردُّ إليهِ رُواءَ الصِبا

    And in our east, how many hands

    Quench their thirst through youth with you

  10. يكلفني السين إنشادها

    وقبلا بها النيلُ عذباً جرى

    Sin challenges me to recite it

    And Nile accepts, flowing sweet

  11. فَتحدثُ في موجهِ هزَّةً

    يكونُ لها في الفرات صدى

    Causing ripples in its waves

    With echoes reaching Euphrates

  12. ويوشكُ إِيفِلُ من جوهِ

    يميلُ لفهمِ حديثِ العُلى

    Soon Eiffel will lean to grasp

    The lofty words that it tells

  13. أَمولايَ إِن غِبتَ عن ناظري

    فما زلتَ منهُ مكانَ الضِيا

    My king, if you're absent from my sight

    You're still there, where light shines

  14. وان منعتني منك البحار

    فما منعت من يديكَ الجدا

    If seas keep me far from you

    They haven't kept my hands from giving

  15. كذا الشمس إِن حجبتها الغيومُ

    فليست لتحجبَ منها السنى

    As sun, though veiled by clouds

    Clouds can't make it cease to shine

  16. أبو الجود تخلق منهُ الجديَد

    وتبدعُ في خلقهِ ما تشا

    Generous king, you make the new

    Creating as you wish, however you desire

  17. وتشكرُ عافيكَ شكرَ العُفاةِ

    فلا يُعرَفُ المجتدي منكما

    You're thanked, as only the noble thank

    That giver and giftee can't be told apart

  18. كأَن قد تساويتما في العطاءِ

    فمنه السرور ومنكَ الغِنى

    As if you both equalized in giving

    Joy from Him, wealth from you

  19. وماذا أهنِي بهذا الوسامِ

    وأنت لكلّ وسامٍ هنا

    What should I say of this medal?

    For you, each medal falls short

  20. يُحلِّي المليكُ بهِ منك صدراً

    به من مزاياك أَسمى الحُلى

    The king adorns with it your chest

    Of your virtues, the highest distinction

  21. فيسطَعُ للعينِ منه الشُّعاعُ

    بن مكارمكم والوفا

    Letting its rays shine for the eye

    Praising your loyalty and grace

  22. ومَن كان فَضلكَ في كفِّهِ

    تملَّكَ من دهرِهِ ما اشتهى

    Whoever had your favor in his grip

    Commanded his fate however he wished

  23. ومَن كان عزمك في جنبهِ

    أَصاب الثريا مكانَ الثرى

    Whoever had your resolve at his side

    Found pearls where there was only dust

  24. فلا عَدمَتكَ عيونُ البلاد

    لأَنك نجمٌ به يُهتدى

    Never bereft of you are the lands' eyes

    You're the star they use to find their way

  25. ولا حُرِمَت منك ارضُ الشآمِ

    وان حملَت مصرُ وقر الهوى

    Never deprived of you is Levant's land

    Though Egypt harbored love's burden and settled
