  1. اليوم قد نالت أعزَّ مرامِ

    كانت ترجيهِ من الأَيامِ

  4. فمشت إِليكَ ولو تساعفُها القوى

    لمشت على الوجَناتِ لا الأَقدامِ

    So she walked towards you, and even if her strength doubled

    She would have walked on roses, not feet

  5. أَصغت لنطقكَ وهي خاشعةٌ وفي

    أَعطافها سكرٌ بغيرِ مُدامِ

    She listened to your words humbly, and in

    Her sides was an intoxication without wine

  6. طربت وردَّتها المَهابةُ فانثَنت

    بين التدُّله فيكَ والإِعظامِ

    She was delighted and awe returned her, so she bent

    Between being impressed by you and veneration

  7. إِنَّ الولاية أًصبحت أَعلامُها

    عُقِدَت لخير الحاكمين همامِ

    Indeed, the state’s flags

    Have been tied for the best and most resolute ruler

  8. وال لهُ لطفُ النسيم ورقَّةُ ال

    ماءِ الزُلالِ وعَزمةُ الصمصامِ

    Who has the gentleness of breeze and softness of

    Clear water and determination of sword

  9. أَخذ السياسة عن أبيها فاغتدى

    في حفظها علماً من الأَعلامِ

    He took politics from its father so he became

    A scientist in preserving it from the flags

  10. فاحذَر يغرُّك حلمهُ فالبحرُ قد

    تُردي غواربهُ وليس بطامِ

    So beware, his forbearance may fool you, for the sea can

    Make its waves rage and is not quiet

  11. كم مِن فتىً أَلِفَ البشاشَةَ ثغرُهُ

    وبجنبهِ حزمٌ كحدِّ حُسامِ

    How many youths became accustomed to the cheerfulness of his face

    And next to it is discipline like the edge of a sword

  12. هذي عواطفُ أَهل بيروتِ لقد

    رُفِعَت إِليك مصوغةً بنظامي

    These are the passions of Beirut’s people, they have

    Been raised to you composed in metrics

  13. فارأب صدوعُ فقيرها ويتيمها

    واكبح جَماح الحاكر الظلامِ

    So mend the rifts of its poor and orphans

    And restrain the injustice of oppressors

  14. وليغدُ اسماعيلُ عهدُكَ بيننا

    بمشيئة الرحمن عهد سلامِ

    And may Ismail’s era between us, by God’s will

    Become an era of peace
