I said to the stars one evening,

Do you, like us, suffer misery?

Keepers of the lids, is it for parting?

Suffocaters of ribs, is it for meeting?

    Wanderers with the galaxy, dragging

Towards no purpose or hope or plea

Like a flock of cats, thirsty,

Around water denied to them and drink

Or virgins around a bewildered bier

In prayer without abating or beseeching

For in your tearful glance, yearning

Piercing its arrow into my guts

And I see your faint light like a tear

    Flowing from white eyelids

    An aching wound or gashes

You are in the endless dark emptiness

You, ancestress of creatures, mother of

Planets, mistress of guidance and glow

You cry, O stars, they answered

We are in isolation in this space

Estrangement has long been between us, so do not be fooled

    By our proximity of lights

Each star of us lives far

From his brother in loneliness and aloofness

    Burning himself without benefit

Losing his light vainly in the sky

I understand what you say, O poet

For you are the souls of the poets

Thus their light is lost on the horizon

    Which they descended like strangers

Do not see the souls near them

What in them is of kindling and brilliance

So they light up the darkness for a while and pass

In raiments of eternity towards the space
