خَلِّ بَيني وبينَ حُبِّ المُدامِ

واعْفِني مِنْ مَسَائِلِ ابنِ سَلاَمِ

Keep me away from the love of wine,

And spare me the questions of Ibn Salam.

أَنا مَالي وللصِّيامِ وقد حا

نَ على المسلمينَ شَهْرُ الصِّيامِ

What business have I with fasting

When the month of fasting has come upon the Muslims?

تاركاً للجِهادِ والحَجِّ والعُمْ

رَةِ والحِلِّ راغباً في الحَرامِ

Abandoning jihad, hajj, umrah and what is permitted, desiring what is forbidden,

Serve me, O cup-bearer, a cup mixed with rainwater,

واسْقِني يا أَخَا المدامةِ كَأْساً

منكَ مَمْزوجَةً بماءِ الغَمامِ

Standing between destruction and immorality,

Dancing in prayer behind the imam.

واقِفاً بينَ فَتْكَةٍ ومُجُونٍ

راقِصاً في الصَّلاةِ خَلْفَ الإمَامِ

I do not seek what is lawful because

I have found the unlawful to be better food.

أنا لا أَطْلُبُ الحلالَ لأَنِّي

قَدْ وَجَدْتُ الحرامَ خَيْرَ طَعامِ

We have been enriched by a pound over all rights,

So for this reason Satan holds my halter.

قَدْ غَنينا بالرَّطْلِ عنْ كُلِّ حَقٍّ

فلهذا الشّيطانُ يَرْعى ذِمامي
