أَمَا آنَ للطّيْفِ أَنْ يَأْتِيا
وأَنْ يَطْرُقَ الوَطَنَ الدَّانِيا
Is it not time for the gentle one to come
And knock on the ruined homeland
وإِنِّي لأَحْسَبُ رَيْبَ الزَّمَا
نِ سَيَتْرُكُني جَسَداً بالِيا
And I reckon the doubt of time
Will leave me a fading body
سأَشْكُرُ ذلكَ لا ناسِياً
جَميلَ الصَّفَاءِ ولا قَالِيا
I will thank that, not forgetting
The beautiful serenity, nor speaking ill
وقَدْ كُنْتُ أَنْشُرُهُ ضَاحِكاً
فَقَدْ صِرْتُ أَنْشُرُهُ باكِيا
I used to spread it laughing
Now I spread it crying
