Above the eyes, brows finely arched;
beneath the brows, wide, deep-black eyes.
Through chinks in the veil they gaze; and
beneath the veil, smiling, well-spaced teeth.
And when they look, they glance out from eyes
that bewitch all eyes, their depths brimming with coy allure.
And when they laugh, their laughter bares hailstones,
sweet with mouth’s nectar, as though they were snow.
And when they take off their garments, you see
over their backs long tresses, black as jet.
They came to Mecca for the pilgrim season, and
because of them, no Muslim’s Hajj remained unscathed.
