1. نارٌ ونُورٌ في الكأْسِ مُؤْتَلِفٌ

    رِقّةُ ماءٍ ورِقّةُ العِنَبِ

    Fire and light blended in the chalice,

    The gentleness of water and the tenderness of grapes.

  2. شَجَّ قِراعُ المِزَاجِ صُورَتَها

    كَلُؤْلُؤٍ جائلٍ على ذَهَبِ

    The blending has molded its image,

    Like wavering pearls over gold.

  3. طوراً وطوراً كَنَسْجِ سابِغَةٍ

    مُنْسَكِبِ الشّخْصِ إِثْرَ مُنْسَكِبِ

    At times spreading like an outstretched carpet,

    Flowing from its rim following its outpour.

  4. وتارةً كالسُّطُورِ مُتّصِلاً

    في جَوانبِ الكُتُبِ

    At times connected like lines,

    Along the margins of books.

  5. هذا وهذا وذاكَ تُظْهِرُهُ

    كأنّما كَأْسُها أبو العَجَبِ

    It shows all this and that and that,

    As if its chalice is the father of wonders.
