أَصْبَحَ نَحْساً وكانَ سَعْدا
مَنْ كانَ مَوْلىً فصارَ عَبْدَا
He who was once fortune's darling
Is now left a hapless thrall
بَكَى على حُسْنِهِ زَماناً
لَمّا رَأى الشَّعْرَ قَدْ تَبَدَّى
He weeps the beauty of bygone days
Seeing his hair turned white overall
لَوْ نَبَتَ الشَّعْرُ في وِصالٍ
لعادَ ذاكَ الوِصَالُ صَدّا
If my locks were still black in union
Then that union would yet recall
