بِطَاوِيةِ الأَجَادِلِ أَوْ بُزَاةٍ

مُحَمِّجَةٍ لداهِيةٍ شَمُوسِ

With servants' gowns or country buses,

All fancied up for swaggering louts,

تَراها في بُرَاها مُنْغِصَاتٍ

بِأَرْؤُسِها بِحَسٍّ أَو حَسِيسِ

You see them in their motley dresses

With heads held high in scornful pouts.

فأُمُّ الطّيرِ في شَرٍّ وعَرٍّ

وأُمُّ الوَحْشِ في يَومٍ عَبُوسِ

The mother bird is in distress,

The mother beast in sullen mood.
