Man has no power over the turns of fate's hand

Nor can he withstand time's blows so hard

Happy are those friends who found

Death before they learned to love

I avow their due right, and willingly

Shed my tears for them as they shed their blood

O Time, you who made them drink the cup

And go to the spring to which they came

Mankind passes away and days pursue them

We all pass, but the One, the Eternal, remains
