رائداتُ العيونِ من يقفهنَّه

يجدِ الغيَّ تابعاً رُشدَهنَّه

The leaders of the eyes, whoever contends with them

Finds waywardness following their guidance

يا عيوني ماذا استطار بقلبي

اذ تولّى ضلالتي هديكنَّه

Oh my eyes, what has flown with my heart

When your misguidance took charge of my guidance

كتم الوجدَ في الضميرِ الى أن

أظهرَ الدمعُ منه ما قد أجنَّه

Concealing passion in my conscience until

My tears revealed what it had hidden

ورأى مذهب التهتكِ في الحبِّ

صواباً في شرعهِ فاستسنَّه

And he saw the path of passion in love

As correct in its law, so he deemed it proper
