1. يا راكباً مِن أعالي الشامِ جدّ بهِ

    الى العراقينِ أدلاجٌ وأسحارُ

    O rider coming from the heights of Damascus

    Heading to the two Iraqs, nights and dawns

  2. حدّثتني عن ربوعٍ طالما قضُيت

    للنّفسِ فيها لبُاناتٌ وأوطارُ

    You told me of meadows where I have spent

    Many a time, joys and haunts for the soul

  3. لدى رياضٍ سقاها المزنُ درّتهُ

    وزانها زَهَرٌ غضٌّ ونوّارُ

    By gardens watered by the rain's downpour

    Blossoming, fresh flowers and springs

  4. شحَّ النّدى أن يُسقّيها مُجاجتهُ

    فجادها مفعمُ الشُّؤبوبِ مِدرارُ

    Scarce was the dew to water them

    So the blowing winds poured heavily

  5. بكت عليها الغوادي وهي ضاحةٌ

    وراحتِ الرّيحُ فيها وهي مِعطارُ

    The valleys wept for them as they flourished

    The winds blew through them, fragrant and pure

  6. يا حُسنها حينَ زانتها جواسِقُها

    وأينعت في أعالي الدّوحِ أثمارُ

    How beautiful when vines adorned them

    Fruits ripe, high on the sand dunes

  7. فهي السماءُ اخضراراً في جوانبِها

    كواكبٌ زُهُرٌ تبدو وأقمارُ

    The sky is green around them

    Stars, flowers appear and moons

  8. يا من أقامَ غرامي بعد قعدتهِ

    وأجَّج النارَ لما باختِ النارُ

    O you who revived my love after its dormancy

    And rekindled the fire when the flame died out

  9. حدّثتني وأنا الظامي الى نبأٍ

    لا فُضَّ فوكَ فمنّي الرّيَّ تمتارُ

    You told me news though I lived in darkness

    Unravel and ease my worries and grief

  10. فهو الزّلالُ الذي طابت مشاربُهُ

    وفارقته غثاءاتٌ وأكدارُ

    It is the pure water with sweet springs

    Leaving behind mud and gloom

  11. كَرِّر على نازحٍ شطَّ المزارُ بهِ

    حديثكَ العذبَ لا شطّت بكَ الدّارُ

    Repeat to the refugee who left his home

    Your sweet talk, since his home abandoned him

  12. وعَلّلِ النّفسَ عنهم بالحديثِ بهم

    انَّ الحديثَ عن الأحبابِ أسمارُ

    Occupy his soul with talk of them

    For talk of loved ones is a fast healer
