1. أطيب بأنديةِ العقيقِ

    ونسيمهِ العبقِ الرّقيقِ

    The most fragrant of valleys is Al-Uqayq

    With its gentle, delicate breeze

  2. وبمائهِ العذبِ النَّمي

    رِ وظِلّهِ الضّافي الأنيقِ

    And its fresh, sparkling water

    And its shady, elegant shade

  3. أطيب بأيامٍ مضي

    نَ بدوحهِ النّضرِ الوريقِ

    The most fragrant were the days gone by

    In its tender, leafy meadow

  4. اذ مربعُ اللذّاتِ في

    ه آهِلٌ نامي الحلوقِ

    When the square of pleasures therein

    Was fruitful, met by the eager

  5. والشّملُ فيه واصِلٌ

    حبلَ الصَّديقةِ بالصّديقِ

    And companionship was connected therein

    The bonds of friend to friend

  6. في ظلِّ دهرٍ راقدٍ

    بإزاءِ حظٍّ مُستفيقِ

    In the shadow of a dormant fate

    Facing a fortune just awoken

  7. اذ ليس طرفي بالأسي

    رِ ولا فؤادي بالطّليقِ

    When my eyes were not tearful

    Nor my heart distraught

  8. أيامَ ميٍّ وهي كال

    بدرِ المنيرِ لدى الشّروقِ

    Days of May, like the full

    Moon at dawn’s first light

  9. أيامَ قربِ مزارِها

    ما ان تَبدّلَ بالسّحيقِ

    Days when visiting its dwellings

    Before they changed to ruins

  10. أغنى بطيبِ حديثِها

    عن نغمةِ الوترِ النّطوقِ

    I was enriched by the sweetness of its talk

    Beyond the melody of the vocal chord

  11. مِن خدّها وِردي ومِن

    سَلسالِ ريِّقها رحيقي

    From its cheek my rose, and from

    The chains of its slender neck my drink

  12. أغدو عليها في الصَّبُو

    حِ كما أروحُ الى الغُبوقِ

    I would go to it at dawn

    As I go to passion’s smolder

  13. يا ميُّ قد غادرتني

    يومَ النّوى شَرِقاً بريقي

    Oh May, you left me

    The day of parting, my brightness waned

  14. ونَوى الأحبّةِ للقلو

    بِ شبيهةٌ بِشجا الحُلُوقِ

    And the intent of loved ones to hearts

    Is like the wounds of yearning

  15. قسماً بساكنِ طيبةٍ

    والرُّكنِ والبيتِ العتيقِ

    I swear by the dweller of holy Mecca

    And the ancient house and stone

  16. انِّي الى نامي شَذا

    ميٍّ لبالصَّبِّ المشوقِ

    That I, to the slumber of May

    Am drawn at dawn’s first allure

  17. يا عاذلي فيها تأ

    كّد لستَ بالحدبِ الشفيقِ

    Oh reproacher in it, be sure

    You are not the merciful friend

  18. لا تطلبن عنها سُلُو

    واً ما اليهِ مِن طريقِ

    Do not ask of it a way

    Whence no path leads

  19. مهما أفقتَ مِن الغرا

    مِ فلستَ منه بالمفيقِ

    However long you remain vigilant

    You are not with it, awake

  20. إنّي لأرضى في الهوى

    من طيفِ ميٍّ بالطروقِ

    I am pleased in love

    By May’s specter in solitude

  21. والريحِ تحملُ نَشرَها

    في الليلِ هاديةَ الخفوقِ

    And the wind carries its blossoms

    In the night, gentle in its stillness
