أَتَدفَعُ عَن فُلانٍ وَهُوَ شَيخٌ

لَهُ عِرضٌ يَنالُ الناسُ مِنهُ

Do I defend so-and-so, though aged is he

With honor that people assail constantly?

وَتَصدُرُ عَنهُ أَفعالٌ قِباحٌ

فَصَدِّق كُلَّ شَيءٍ قيلَ عَنهُ

And attribute to him ugly actions indeed?

Then I verify all that is said of him, agreed.
