وَثَقيلٍ إِذا بَدا
أَكثَرَ الناسُ لَعنَهُ
A heavy bore, whenever he appears,
the people heap curses upon him.
كُلُّ رَملٍ بِعالِجٍ
لا تَرى فيهِ وَزنَهُ
All the sands of ʿĀlij
could not match him in weight.
ظُنَّ خَيراً بِغَيرِهِ
وَبِهِ لا تَظُنُّهُ
Think well of someone other than him;
of him, never think the same.
وَعَلى نَحسِهِ فَقَد
قيلَ عَنهُ بِأَنَّهُ
And, despite his ill fortune, it has indeed
been said of him that he
ثُمَّ لا يَترُكُ الحَما
قَةَ حَتّى كَأَنَّهُ
