بِاللَهِ قُل لي خَبَرَك
فَلي ثَلاثٌ لَم أَرَك
By Allah, tell me your news
For I have not seen you in three days
يا أَسبَقَ الناسِ إِلى
مَوَدَّتي ما أَخَّرَك
O you who preceded others in
Gaining my affection, what delayed you
وَناظِري إِلى الطَري
قِ لَم يَزَل مُنتَظِرَك
And my onlooker, why do you still
Wait for you?
يا ناسِياً عَهدِيَ ما
كانَ لِعَهدي أَذكَرَك
O you who forgot my pact
My pact did not make you remember
يا أَيُّها المُعرِضُ عَن
أَحبابِهِ ما أَصبَرَك
O you who turned away from
His beloveds, what patience you have
بَينَ جُفوني وَالكَرى
مُذ غِبتَ عَنّي مُعتَرَك
Between my eyelids and my pain
Since you were absent from me, preoccupied
وَنُزهَتي أَنتَ فَلِم
حَرَّمتَ عَيني نَظَرَك
And my joy, you were that, so why
Did you deprive my eyes from seeing you?
أَخَذتَ قَلباً طالَما
عَلَيَّ ظُلماً نَصَرَك
You took a heart which
Had been unjust to me for so long
كَيفَ تَغَيَّرتَ وَمَن
هَذا الَّذي قَد غَيَّرَك
How did you change, and who
Is this that changed you?
وَكَيفَ يامُعَذِّبي
قَطَعتَ عَنّي خَبَرَك
And how, O my tormentor
Did you cut off your news from me?
وَعَن غَرامي كُلَّما
لامَكَ قَلبي عَذَرَك
And about my passion, whenever
My heart blamed you, it excused you
فَاِعجَب لِصَبٍّ فيكَ ما
شَكاكَ إِلّا شَكَرَك
So strange is the youthfulness in you
None blamed you but thanked you
وَاللَهِ ماخُنتُ الهَوى
لَكَ الضَمانُ وَالدَرَك
By Allah I was never disloyal in love
You have the guarantee and the wager
يا آخِذاً قَلبي أَما
قَضَيتَ مِنهُ وَطَرَك
O you who took my heart, have you not
Gotten your fill of it?
قَد كانَ لي صَبرٌ يُطي
لُ اللَهُ فيهِ عُمُرَك
I used to have patience in which
God would prolong your lifetime
وَحَقِّ عَينَيكَ لَقَد
نَصَبتَ عَينَيكَ شَرَك
And by the right of your eyes, you have
Set up your eyes as a snare
وَحاسِدٍ قالَ فَما
أَبقى لَنا وَلا تَرَك
And a jealous one said, so he did not
Leave anything for us or spare
مازالَ يَسعى جُهدَهُ
ياظَبِيُ حَتّى نَفَّرَك
He still strives his utmost
O gazelle, until he scared you away
