حَبيبي تائِهٌ جِدّا

أَطالَ العَتبَ وَالصَدّا

My beloved is quite lost

Prolonging estrangement and aloofness

حَماني الشُهدَ مَن فيهِ

وَخَلّى عِندِيَ السُهدا

The sweetness allured me into it

And left me alone with yearning

وَقَد أَبدى إِلى البُستا

نِ مِن خَدَّيهِ ما أَبدى

He revealed to the hidden glade

Of his cheeks what he revealed

فَيا لِلَّهِ ما أَحلى

وَما أَشهى وَما أَندى

Oh how beautiful!

How appetizing and how dewy

وَذاكَ السُقمُ مِن جَفنَي

هِ ما أَسرَعَ ما أَعدى

That illness in my eyelids

Rushed through speedily

وَفي الدَنِّ لَنا راحٌ

لَها تِسعونَ أَو إِحدى

And we have comfort in lowliness

Ninety-one or one less

وَما أُلقي بِها إِلاّ

لِمَن قَد عُرِّفَ الرُشدا

I met it only

Through the guidance of integrity

وَهيفاءَ كَما تَهوى

تُريكَ القَدَّ وَالخَدّا

Heifa, as you wish

Shows you coyness and cheek

وَتُشجيكَ بِأَلحانٍ

تُذيبُ الجَلمَدَ الصَلدا

And excites you with melodies

Melting the frigid aloof

وَلَفظٍ يوجِبُ الغَسلَ

عَلى السامِعِ وَالحَدّا

And an expression that necessitates ablution

Upon the listener and the cheeky

جَزى الرَحمَنُ شَعباناً

تَقَضّى الشُكرَ وَالحَمدا

May God reward Shaban

Who fulfilled thanks and praise

وَإِن عِشنا لِشَوّالٍ

أَعَدنا ذَلِكَ العَهدا

And if we live to see Shawwal

We will renew that promise
