أَلا إِنَّ عِندي عاشِقُ السُمرِ غالِطٌ
وَإِنَّ المِلاحَ البيضَ أَبهى وَأَبهَجُ
Indeed, in my view, the lover of dark beauties is mistaken;
And fair-skinned beauties are more splendid and more delightful.
وَإِنّي لَأَهوى كُلِّ بَيضاءَ غادَةٍ
يُضيءُ لَها وَجهٌ وَثَغرٌ مُفَلَّجُ
And I, indeed, adore every fair and graceful maiden
Whose face and delicately spaced teeth gleam.
وَحَسبِيَ أَنّي أَتبَعُ الحَقَّ في الهَوى
وَلا شَكَّ أَنَّ الحَقَّ أَبيَضُ أَبلَجُ
And it is enough for me that, in love, I follow the truth;
And there is no doubt that truth is white and radiant.
