أَرسَلتُهُ في حاجَةٍ

كَالماءِ هَيِّنَةِ المَساغِ

I sent him on an errand

As easy as water to drink

فَحُرِمتُ حُسنَ قَضائِها

إِذ لَم يَكُن حَسَنَ البَلاغِ

But was deprived of its swift execution

For he lacked eloquence

كَالخَمرِ يُرسَلُ لِلفُؤا

دِ بِها فَتَصعَدُ لِلدِماغِ

Like wine sent to gladden the heart

Rising to the head
