طابَ عَيْشِي بِرَغْمِ أَنْفِ الْعَذُولِ
وَتَمتَّعْتُ مِنْ وِصالِ وَصُولِ
My life grew sweet, to spite the censor;
I reveled in union with a love who yields.
وَأَتانا الهَواءُ عَنْ غَيْرِ وَعْدٍ
فَرَأَيْنا تِشْرِينَ فِي أَيْلُولِ
Fair weather came to us without a promise,
and we saw October arrive in September.
فأَقْبَلَ الْكأْسَ يا خَلَيلَي مِنْ سا
قٍ مَلِيحٍ دلالُهُ مَقْبُولِ
So take the cup, my two friends, from a cup—
—bearer, handsome, whose coy grace delights.
زادَ طِيبَ الأَقْداحِ كَفَّاهُ طِيباً
وَأَعارَ الشَّمُولَ طِيبَ الشَّمُولِ
His palms made the goblets sweeter-scented still,
and lent the wine the north wind’s perfume.
