وَزِقٍ صَرِيعٍ قَطِيعِ الْيَدَيْنِ
قَتَلْناهُ وَلَمْ نَبْكِهِ
And a wineskin, felled, with both its hands cut off—
we killed it and did not mourn it.
سَفَكْتُ دَماً مِنْهُ لَمْ يُؤْذِهِ
وكانَ لِي الحَظُّ فِي سَفْكِهِ
I spilled blood from it that caused it no pain,
and I had my share in spilling it.
مَعِي طَرَبٌ لا يُطِيعُ المَلامَ
وَلَيْسَ يُقَصِّرُ عَنْ فَتْكِهِ
With me is a rapture that heeds no reproach
and never shrinks from striking it down.
